Flyers 4, Islanders 1

Peter Forsberg and the Philadelphia Flyers ended up with a first-round playoff series against the Buffalo Sabres when the Eastern Conference matchups finally sorted out Tuesday night.

"All the teams that get in the playoffs are tough," Forsberg said after the Flyers' 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders in the regular-season finale. "Buffalo is tough and so is New Jersey and everyone else. We just have to worry about ourselves.

Rangers-Islanders Preview

GAME: New York Rangers (40-20-12) at New York Islanders (33-33-5).

TIME: Wednesday, 7 p.m. EST.

The names Graves, Ratelle, Henry and Bower are well-known in New York Rangers history. They may soon be replaced in the record book by Jagr and Lundqvist.

Several long-standing club records could fall when the Rangers meet the New York Islanders at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Canadiens 2, Islanders 0

Before this season, Cristobal Huet might have been the only person to believe he could lead the Montreal Canadiens into the playoffs.

His coach certainly didn't think so.

"No idea," said Bob Gainey, who also serves as general manager.

Huet made 36 saves for his sixth shutout to lead the Canadiens to a 2-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. He has recorded all of his shutouts since wresting the starting job away from Jose Theodore on Feb. 2.

Islanders 5, Thrashers 1

The New York Islanders are playing as though they can still make the NHL playoffs.

Miroslav Satan had a goal and two assists, and the New York Islanders beat the Atlanta Thrashers 5-1 Saturday night.

"Every game from here on out is a Game 7," Satan said. "This was a chance to stay alive, and we'd rather be five points out than nine points out. At nine points, it's just about over."

Rick DiPietro earned his career-best 27th win by making 22 saves.
